We’re excited to launch our new managed open water swimming sessions at Tittesworth Water Sports on Saturday 13 June. Set against the stunning backdrop of Tittesworth Reservoir near Leek, these supervised sessions are designed to give confident swimmers a safe, structured and enjoyable way to experience open water swimming this summer.
Managed open water swimming is being introduced as a trial for summer 2026, with sessions taking place at authorised times and within a designated swim area that has been checked for underwater obstructions. Tittesworth Water Sports has worked closely with Severn Trent Water to make the sessions as safe and accessible as possible, with water sampling, temperature checks, swim safety cover and mandatory safety equipment all forming part of the experience.
The swim course is a 400 metre route marked by four large orange buoys and swum in an anticlockwise direction. Each booking lasts 60 minutes and includes a 10 minute pre-swim briefing, followed by up to 50 minutes in the water. Swimmers should arrive ready to swim at the registration desk by the water’s edge in time for the start of their session. Attending the briefing is essential, as access to the water will not be permitted if it is missed. To take part, swimmers must be able to comfortably swim 400 metres unaided and without stopping. Mandatory kit includes a brightly coloured swim hat, a swim tow float and a pealess whistle attached to the tow float. A wetsuit is also mandatory when water temperatures are between 11 and 14 degrees Celsius.
Please note that swimming remains unauthorised at Tittesworth Reservoir outside of these managed sessions. If you’re looking for a refreshing new challenge, a chance to build your confidence in open water, or simply an unforgettable morning outdoors, we’d love to welcome you. Places should be booked online in advance via the Tittesworth Water Sports website. Come and be part of the launch and discover open water swimming at Tittesworth this Saturday.
